Sipwell
Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 November 2026.
Sipwell ("Sipwell", "the app") is a water tracker. This policy explains what happens to your information in the iPhone app.
The short version
The water you log stays on your iPhone. Sipwell has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and it sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
What Sipwell stores, on your device
- Your sips (time, amount and drink type), daily goal, climate and usual-intake answers, unit and colour choices, reminder settings, your buddy's name, outfit and tone, saved bottles and earned badges.
This data lives in Sipwell's private storage on your iPhone, in a container it shares only with its own widgets. Deleting the app deletes it. If you use iCloud Backup, your iPhone backup includes this data; Apple handles that backup under your Apple Account settings. You can also save a backup file or export your history yourself from the You tab; where that file goes is your choice.
Permissions
- Notifications: optional, used only for the reminders you turn on and a quiet note when you reach your goal. Reminders are created on your iPhone; there is no push server.
- Motion: the water in the Today glass tilts as you move your phone. This reads the phone's orientation on the device while the screen is open; it is never stored or sent anywhere.
Sipwell does not request your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos, and it never reads your health data.
Apple Health (optional). If you turn on Apple Health in Sipwell's settings, Sipwell asks iOS for permission to write water to Health, and saves each sip there as Water. It asks for no read access and reads nothing from Health. What it writes stays in Health on your devices, protected and synced by Apple; Sipwell sends none of it anywhere. Health data is never used for advertising or shared with anyone. You can turn sync off in Sipwell or remove access in the Health app at any time. When you share your weekly recap or Dew's letter, Sipwell makes a picture and hands it to the app you choose; nothing is uploaded by Sipwell.
Siri, Shortcuts and widgets
If you use "Log water" with Siri, Shortcuts, Control Center or a widget, the request is handled on your iPhone by Sipwell's own code. Apple's own privacy policy applies to Siri.
Purchases
Sipwell Plus (a monthly subscription or a one-time purchase) and the optional Support purchase are bought through the App Store. Apple handles your payment; Sipwell only learns, on your device, which purchases your Apple Account owns, never your card or payment details. A subscription renews every month until you cancel it in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
Ratings
After you have used Sipwell for a few days, it may ask iOS to show Apple's rating prompt, once. Apple runs that prompt; Sipwell does not see your answer.
Children
Sipwell is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Third parties
None. Sipwell contains no third-party SDKs, analytics, advertising or crash reporting. Apple may share anonymous crash and usage statistics with developers if you have allowed it in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Not medical advice
Sipwell's daily suggestion is a gentle personal prompt, not medical guidance. Drinks other than water count at an approximate share of the amount poured. If a clinician has given you a fluid target, follow that.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new date.
